More wisdom from Greensboro's own resident professional smart guy:
"It's almost funny, the way the naked self-interest of powerful institutions shapes so much of this [health care reform] debate, and the lengths to which people will go to pretend it's not happening. These are, in a broader sense, the same folks who just blew up the economy. I guess we deserve what we get." He doesn't tell us who "they" are, nor does he address their counterparts, the big government social democrats. We all know their track record in economics. Just look at California, New York, Michigan, and a whole host of other big government states to see how well big government economics has performed. And don't forget about Europe and other Socialist countries.I guess unless his side wins, there must be something wrong with America. Of course there is, and that is that America isn't more like Europe. Here's an idea: move. Otherwise, please quit trying to turn America into a country that it isn't.
And if he is going to blame people for the failure of reform the way he wants it, he can start with the Democrats who have 60 votes to pass what they want. I thought this was supposed to be a great new liberal era, with conservatism in the ash heap. At least that's how it was heralded. I said all along that the election was not about a shift in ideology but anger at the Republican Party, much of it from within their own ranks and not because they weren't liberal enough, but because they strayed away from conservatism. The rejection by the American people (not the "powerful interests") of the Obama economic agenda and now his big government health care plan should be enough proof of that. But I guess we are all just too stupid to know better and deserve the government we get.
While he's at it, maybe he can attempt to reconcile this post with the one from last week when he urged Obama and the Democrats to back away from a massive program- the same kind of program that today he laments falling to the "powerful interests". Which opinion of his should we run with? Last weeks or this weeks?
